Exactly what I needed.

I needed an enclosure to rescue data from an old IDE drive and was pleasantly surprised to find this at a reasonable price. The ability to use both formats means this will still be of use when my IDE drive finally dies and can be swapped out for a SATA.
The double USB lead was a slight concern but I have used it with only one lead attached without issue so far. Possibly it would be an issue with larger HDDS

Works fine on Windows8.1, once I pushed the SATA drive far enough into the connector! Requires 2 USB sockets near each other, to supply power, although a cheap USB hub would probably do as well. The pads supplied to secure the drive in the case are very fiddly, but persevere and you'll see that the plastic on one side lifts away to reveal a sticky surface to attach to your drive. Can't really go wrong for the price!

Worked first time does what it says

Usually i've no complaints with anything i get from memoryc but this thing is useless. Connected it to my laptop hard drive and the case wouldn't close so i left it open and plugged it in. Came up ok as a drive in Explorer but when i shut it down, i almost broke it trying to unplug my laptop drive. Pretty poor

The enclosure works a treat, using either external DC power or supplementary USB power on the supplied y-cable. (Needed both as some of the laptops here are a bit short of USB ports.) Also just as happy with PATA or SATA drives.

Just a note, the enclosure doesn't come with screws for securing the drive to the planche but at least two are needed if you plan to move it about. Look for screws with very flat heads as there is not a lot of clearance between the planche and the bottom of the case.

Very good drive with both sata and ide connections. Hard drive easy to install. You are given two pads to help protect the hard drive. These pads are very hard to peel off cover to reveal sticky part for sticking to drive.
Another thing with these pads i think it saved my hard drive as girlfriend knocked off dresser on passing onto solid wooden floor and its still working.

Cons are you need 2 usb sockets to power the unit it has a connection for an external power source but i tried one and it blow drive and board my own fault. so be careful.
